Origin

Hodgson (1967) noted that: "Of the same parentage as Pina, Minneola, and Seminole, Sunshine has not achieved commercial importance, but is said to be promising as a rootstock in Florida."

The Chiefland Budwood Facility (2010) provided the following notes on the cultivar (clone DPI-833-13): "C. reticulata hybrid. Origin: Florida, USDA, same parents as MI/TA (Duncan x Dancy)."

Description

Crown compact or dense, not weeping. First-year twig surface glabrous; second- or third-year twig surface striate; thorns absent or not persistent; prickles absent or not persistent. Petiole glabrous, length medium; wings narrow or medium, adjoining the blade. Leaflets one, margin crenate/crenulate, shade leaflet blades weakly conduplicate, sun leaflet blades weakly or strongly conduplicate. Scent of crushed leaflets mandarin-like when crushed. Fruit as broad as long or longer than broad; rind yellow (7-10), yellow-orange (11), or orange (12); rind texture slightly rough (4-5); firmness leathery; navel absent; flesh orange; taste acidic-sweet.

Hodgson (1967) provided the following additional notes on the cultivar:

"Fruit large, grapefruit-like, slightly subglobose to somewhat oblong; color pale orange; seedy. Flesh orange-colored; flavor acid. Maturity very late. Tree vigorous and upright."

The Chiefland Budwood Facility (2010) provided the following additional notes on the cultivar (clone DPI-833-13): "Description: Large fruit, grapefruit like, seedy. Season: Very late"
